A makeshift wooden cross on a desk was set on fire in an apparent arson inside a Union City girls school, WABC reports.
Union City, NJ – Eyewitness News reports that the fire broke out inside the Bnos Sanz Education Center on New York Avenue sometime after 9 p.m. last night.
The fire was apparently set on a desk inside the girls school portion of the education center.
Arsonists placed two pieces of wood, in the shape of a cross, on the desk and set it on fire.
Firefighters responded to reports of the blaze. They put out the burning desk and dragged it onto the sidewalk.
Police were looking for an unknown number of suspects who broke in through a back door. No arrests were immediately made.
The school building also houses a day care and a library.
Police are investigating the incident, and no arrests have been made.
