7:46PM IL: A meeting was held in Bnei Brak on Tuesday night in the home of Maran Hagon Rav Shmuel Halevi Wosner Shlita together with a number of the leading rabbonim in the city. The meeting was a closed event, without the media, including members of Bnei Brak’s Vaad Shatnez. The meeting surrounded the issue of the growing concerns surrounding the recent finding of shatnez in talleisim (as reported HERE on YWN).

Much of the information emanating from the meeting is not being officially released at this time, and as such, it will not be reported presently to avoid anything being taken out of context.

Rav Wosner has appointed Dayan Rav Moshe Shaul Klein, a dayan of Rav Wosner as well as the son-in-law of Gavaad Maran Rav Karelitz Shlita, Rav Rosenberg to the vaad to become personally involved in the shatnez issue.

The rabbonim Shlita learned that it appears many or most of the posul talleisim were from one factory, which has no supervision whatsoever, and it now seems that new factories will be used or established and gedolim are now calling on the tzibur to only purchase a tallis with a reliable hechsher. Rav Wosner has learned that too many talleisim have been found to be posul, and as such, it appears one may no longer rely on random sample checking of particular styles of talleisim, but each tallis must be inspected.

In addition, official notification is expected in the coming days, which appears will include a kol korei requested that everyone have their talleisim checked for shatnez, as well as instructions for those who found they were in violation of the shatnez prohibition r”l.
