Car Bomb Targets Egyptian Intelligence HQ in Sinai [UPDATED 13:30 IL]

ywnisrael.israelA powerful car bomb exploded near the Rafiach border to Gaza in Sinai on Wednesday morning, 7 Tishrei 5774, targeting an Egyptian intelligence headquarters in that area. The suicide car bomb attack involved crashing the car bomb into the military headquarters.

There was a second bomb blast nearby, apparently targeting a military checkpoint. At least 10 people were injured in total.

For Israel, the ongoing warfare in Sinai is reason for concern as the once tranquil border has now turned worrisome with the realization that Sinai is rapidly becoming a major terrorist base as that country is in the midst of a civil war. Since the overthrow of President Hosni Mubarak the calm that existed in Sinai since the signing of the peace treaty with Egypt began giving way to increased incidents of cross-border gunfire as well as armed conflict between opposing factions in Egypt.

13:30 IL: At least five Egyptian soldiers were killed and 19 injured in the attacks.
