Incoming Governor of the Bank of Israel Prof. Leo Leiderman informed Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu that he was stepping down ahead of final approval for the senior post. Leiderman was not the prime minister’s first choice for the post, but he selected after Prof. Yaakov Frenkel announced that he was bowing out of the race.
Leiderman said that, after intensive discussion with his family in the past two days, he prefers to remain working in a private capacity at Tel Aviv University and Bank Hapoalim.
Undoubtedly the announcement took the prime minister by surprise as he once again finds himself compelled to select another candidate for the senior post.

I’m available for the position. Just putting that out there…
There we go again. Sholom Bernanke next? – and Fischer switching to the Fed?
Seems like there is really something wrong with that job. Twice to announce a person for the job, and then have the person cancel at the last minute!?? Maybe they’re not paying enough or something!
#3 Sounds more like they don’t want the “Finance Minister” (Lapid) who knows nothing about this position to be on top of them. Who can blame them?
Hey #1 you have to promise first that you’ll accept the position!!
