Chabad Shaliach to of Derbent in the Republic of Dagestan Rabbi Ovadia Isakov is recuperating in a Tel Aviv hospital after being shot in an attack near his home.
The rav was the victim of an anti-Semitic attack which left him seriously wounded by gunfire. After his condition stabilized enough for transport, with the assistance of Chief Rabbi of Russia Berel Lazar and Zaka, the rav was flown to Eretz Yisrael where he is admitted to an intensive care unit in Beilinson Hospital.
Senior ICU physician Dr. Eliyahu Kagen reports the rav’s condition is improving. Kagen, who was a member of the medical team that flew to Russia to bring the rav to Israel reports that he is no longer in life-threatening danger.
The rav told reporters this is not the first attack, citing once, an explosive was thrown into the mikve. “Despite it all, we do not live in fear. It is a good kehilla”.
