Israel Air Force Chief Major-General Amir Eshel announced on Wednesday, 13 Sivan 5773 that despite media reports to the contrary, the advanced Russian-built S-300 air defense system has yet to reach Syria. According to international media reports, based on statements by the Arab media, the defense system was already delivered to the Syrians, a reality that would significantly shift the balance of power regarding the IAF’s ability to operate over Syrian.
Speaking at a Herzliya conference, the air force commander stated “This gives our enemies self confidence and must more aggressive behavior with the understanding this provides them with a protective umbrella. If they feel protected, they will do things that they would not do without having the system.”
Eshel added “There are many solutions to this system. I do not wish to get into it. There is no system that does not have a solution. This question is the price that has to be paid.”
