30 Million NIS for Chareidi Educational Mosdos in Yerushalayim

shekelJerusalem City Hall is moving ahead with a budget of 30 million NIS for the construction of three new chareidi schools, including Seminar Ramot, a special education school in Ramat Shlomo and major educational complex at the Tamir complex adjacent to the Ramat Road. Deputy Mayor Yitzchak Pindrus, who is responsible for chareidi education in the capital, was instrumental in pushing the budgets through. The budget includes 5.6 million NIS given by the national lottery, Mifal HaPayis. The lottery funds will be allocated to the special education facility in Ramat Shlomo.

An additional 16 million NIS was allocated for a 2,300 square meter complex in the Ramot area, which will somewhat alleviate the severe classroom overcrowding that exists in chareidi schools in that community of the capital.

Pindrus explains an additional 10 million NIS was allocated by the Education Ministry towards the school at the Tamir complex. The building will house 32 classrooms and a 200 square meter library. There will also be a high tech area of 5,500 square feet to host computers and other science and research rooms.

The final approval is expected at the end of last month. YWN-ISRAEL was unable to determine if Mayor Barkat will still seek to block funds for the seminar, based on allegations the school discriminates against Sephardi girls.

  1. #1 How cynical.

Yitzchok Pindrus has been working on this for years. Good for him.

The seminar being built near Tamir is Rabbi Yechiel Mendelson’s Darchei Rochel Seminar. They are currently in a rented factory building, mostly without proper flooring or basic necessities. They have some 2000 girls learning there (many many Sefardim too!!) and there are many very sad girls each year who are refused entry due to lack of space.

  2. #2 – You are 100% right and this allocation is well overdue

3 of my 4 daughters have been thru this 6 yr school plus and an additional one in high school now

My son’s Cheider has still not been built and my older son who is 18 went to the same one and ’til today the boys classrooms are caravans on top of caravans

And – we all pay municipal taxes – so why is it due to elections if we get some normal classrooms and buildings?

It is an embarrassment to see the conditions of the classrooms many of our children attend!
