General Hassan Shateri, a senior command in Iran’s elite Revolutionary Guard was killed by Israel, Iranian news agencies report. The general was killed by “Zionists agents” in Syria the reports read, with the Balagh news site detailing he was a senior commander in the al-Quds force, and the most senior officer killed in Syrian fighting.
Shateri played a major role in the rebuilding of southern Lebanon after the Second Lebanon War in 2006, working under the alias Husam Khoshnevis.
According to the statement released on Wednesday night the eve of 4 Adar 5773 by Iran’s embassy in Beirut, the senior official was assassinated by terrorists on his way from Damascus to Beirut.
