Rav Kanievsky: There Is Nothing To Fear In Bnei Brak

[LETTER IN EXTENDED ARTICLE]

As Operation Pillar of Defense is in its sixth day, we see the miracles of HKBH as only 3.5% of the over 650 rockets launched against Israel have landed in urban area and the overwhelming number of attacks ended without injuries or even property damage.

Last week, Thursday Rosh Chodesh Kislev 5773 to be exact, the first siren sounded in the Gush Dan area, which included Bnei Brak. Many residents were eager to consult with HaGaon HaRav Chaim Kanievsky Shlita following the siren alert to learn what advice the gadol hador has as rockets continue to pound Eretz Yisrael. Many wished to learn what to do towards calming themselves down following the siren in Bnei Brak.

Rav Kanievsky told the hundreds who inquired to simply remain in Bnei Brak, for the Torah city may rely on the words of the Chazon Ish ZT”L, that there is nothing to fear in Bnei Brak due to the zchus of the limud Torah and bombs will not land in the city.

The rav responded with a personal letter, a chizuk to residents, telling people those seeking a safe place should come to Bnei Brak. This letter appears on the front page of Yated Ne’eman.

The letter was written to calm residents as the sirens continue to wail in Gush Dan, and Rav Kanievsky himself promises the tzibur that they are safe in Bnei Brak.

  1. Please note that contrary to many rumors, Rav Chaim did not say anything about not going into a safe room or mamad in the event of a siren. Please continue to follow safety directives and take cover when you hear a siren. Thank you and may we see only bracha and shalom for am yisrael and eretz yisrael.

  2. I’m not sure I understand your comment. Why would one go into a bomb shelter if the Rav assured that NO bombs will fall in B’nai Brak. I guess you really don’t believe????

  3. Rav Chaim did not promise anything!

He simply said that yes what a Tzadik says is still valid even after he passes (based on what Rav Turtzin said that the Chazon Ish said)

  4. א”כ כשהחזו”א זצ”ל אמר שבבני ברק לא יהי’ פצצות כמו שהעיד הגה”צ רא”צ טורצין זצ”ל בודאי יתקיים גם היום ואין לפחד כלל”
    Read it again! “בודאי” “surely”

  5. It is difficult to believe as #2 implies that R’ Chaim Shlita is advising people to act irresponsibly.then again, b’h he is alive and well, one can simply ask him for further clarification or simply ask point blank, if the sirens sound, should we bother going to a shelter or does the guarantee of chazon ish nwgate this requirement.

  6. to #2

ever heard of the jewish term, don’t rely on miracles. we all must do our hishtadlus in every situation & can’t just sit back & depend on a miracle happening

  7. #6 No one said anything about relying on miracles. I am just quoting the tzaddik “don’t worry at all” that seems to mean Nothing is going to happen causing us to rely on miracles. You got to talk straight. Stop beating around the bush! I think #5 had the best idea, although it will never happen. I was just trying to get a point through. If you understand , then good for you. If not, then I feel bad! Have a great day and don’t believe everything you hear or see. Or at least don’t bet your life on it .
