Rabbi David Goldberg according to most has become the most famous mohel in the world, albeit not by choice. The rav spoke, who is an eighth generation Yerushalmi, spoke with Kol Chai Radio on erev shabbos 6 Elul 5772, explaining that he is planning to continue to perform bris milah on Jewish children in Germany despite the lawsuit and legal charges against him.
Rav Goldberg explains that during his career, he has performed over 4,000 britot, most in Eretz Yisrael, and B”H, there has never been a complication.
He cited that he is familiar with the doctor who is filing the lawsuit against him, describing him as an “anti-bris activist”. He added that “on a day-to-day level things are fine in Germany but in actuality, a week does not pass without an attack against a cemetery, shul or something”.
Rabbi Goldberg feels that there is still a great deal of anti-Semitism in Germany but for him, he is committed to his mission of bris milah for as long as there are Jews requiring one. He adds that the Cologne court’s decision only applies to the jurisdiction of that court’s district, and not the entire country, so while the court’s decision is most disturbing, it is not as bad as many believe.
