PM Dismisses Plesner Committee

After speaking with Kadima leader Deputy Prime Minister Shaul Mofaz, Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu has reached the decision that the Plesner Committee will not achieve its goal of hammering out the new draft law to replace the Tal Law and as such, he has dismissed the committee.

The prime minister reached his decision after the resignation of three of the ten members of the committee; representatives of Yisrael Beitenu, HaBayit HaYehudi and the chareidi tzibur, it was clear the committee lacks the mandate to continue.

With the High Court deadline of August 1, 2012 rapidly approaching, the prime minister must find the formula that will earn sufficient Knesset support or face the realization that in less than a month’s time, 60,000 avreichim will officially be categorized as illegally absent from military service and be in violation of the law.
