The Jewish community in Johannesburg is outraged after a middle-aged man was shot dead while walking to Shul on Shabbos morning – just a few hundred feet from “Chabad Lyndhurst”.
Police told Independent Online, three men in a Toyota stopped next to the victim on Morkel Street. One of them pulled out a wepon and shot the man in the arm. The bullet went through his arm and into his abdomen. “It was a fatal shot. The man R”L died on the scene.” The man’s Tallis bag was found nearby.
Rabbi Rodal from Chabad Norwood said: “We are shocked, saddened and outraged by the crime levels in this country and how life is worth so little.”
It seems that thieves stole his Tallis bag thinking that there were valuables inside.

Boruch Dayan Emas.
There was a column in a Jewish newspaper a few weeks ago (maybe Yated) that told about something that happens to someone while doing mitzvos even though “Those who travel on a mission to do a mitzvah will experience no harm, neither on their way there nor on their way back” (Talmud – Pesachim 8b). I can’t remember what it said.
Do any of the readers know what it said?
