The High Court of Justice on Monday, 24 Cheshvan, rejected an appeal filed on behalf of Shmuel Weissfish, a member of the Geula’s Vaad HaTznius. Shmuel was convicted of a number of acts of violence in targeting an area business that he deemed unsuitable. He was sentenced to two years imprisonment which he will be beginning before Chanukah. In addition, he must reimburse the store’s owner for damage to the tune of 50,000 NIS.
The incident dates back four years, when Weissfish and his associates decided the electronic items sold in the store were corrupting the area youth. Weissfish and supporters regularly protested outside the store, negatively impacting business, threatening persons who tried entering to make a purchase. From there things got worse, and employees were threatened and they even entered the store and damaged merchandise.
Chadrei Chareidim reports that the situation peaked in 2008, when during one of their protests Weissfish dragged the store owner outside and while holding him down, they beat him. The man sustained a number of fractures and bruises as a result of the beating.
Weissfish was convicted on counts of assault, extortion, threats and other related charges. During his trial, he accused the store owner of threatening him, denying the charges against him. He was sentenced to prison and ordered to pay compensation, as well as a fine of 5,000 NIS.
He attorney appealed to the High Court if the hope of a lighter sentence or a delay in reporting to prison, but the court would not hear of it.

Look out for meshulachim collecting for pidyan shvuim, coming to a shul near you.LOL!
You don’t think it was skipped when they were learning what?
Good and may his prison term be extended. this person is a rasha,
As is quite well known, prison is a place that lacks in Inyanei Tznius. Perhaps that is a perfect location for him to work on changing local opinion with his Vaad Hatznius.
BH… he got whats was coming to him
extremism is bad in all forms except when one is doing tshuva. Let’s hope that this fellow during his 2 years in jail will use his cochot of extremism to do tshuva.
If he actually did what it says, I feel little sympathy for him. However, do you trust the courts here? or the media? I most certainly do not. 80% of the country here feels that Deri was framed. A lot also believe Katzav was too. The establishment here knows how to take care of “uppity” shomer Shabbos sefadim. A 71 year Toldos Aron chasid was attacked by someone and died the next day from his injuries. Policemen, who were at the scene and witnessed the attack, filed a report that he attacked the other man and the other man was defending himself. A video was then produced showing the police lied. So the police then rewrote the report to conform with the video. Were the police involved fired or disciplined in anyway? No. What is the real story about Shmuel Weissfish? I don’t know. However, people need to be careful as to information that they believe or spread. And if it can’t happen in the US? There’s Rubashkin and Pollard.
‘…and employees were threatened and they even entered the store and damaged merchandise.’
Why didn’t the store owner turn to the authorities back then?
Something doesn’t make sense here, as in many other affairs.
Just shows the value of news. Most reports are sucked out of a finger. If you want to know the real news, just learn a Blat Gemorah. Everything is true and last minute updated there.
