Last night, Monday, the eve of 11 Cheshvan, the Mir Rosh Yeshiva HaGaon HaRav Nosson Tzvi Finkel Zatzal phoned Minister of the Interior Eli Yishai to personally thank him for arranging a reduction in arnona property tax for yeshivos gedolos. The Rav zt”l is quoted as telling Yishai that his actions have lifted a major burden off the shoulders of roshei yeshiva.

The rosh yeshiva maintained a cordial relationship with Yishai, often consulting with him regarding matters within the scope of his expertise over the years.

Aides to the Shas leader released official messages of sorrow over the petira of the rosh yeshiva, expressing the profound loss to all of Am Yisrael.

Minister Yishai was among the many prominent personalities seen at Mir for the levaya and he was visibly moved when standing aside the Aron of the late Rosh Yeshiva zt”l.
