Mimicking her actions of last Sukkos, Jerusalem Councilwomen Rachel Azarya once against turned to the nation’s High Court of Justice against the gender segregation in Meah Shearim during Sukkos. The petition was heard on Sunday, 18 Tishrei. Court president Justice Dorit Beinish stated the barrier placed in areas to keep men and women apart will be removed immediately following Yomtov, referring to the mechitza placed outside Toldos Aaron, an annual event, to maintain separation as thousands visit the area.
The court ruled that next year the barriers will not be permitted unless a permit is obtained from the local municipality, in this case, Jerusalem City Hall, explaining a police permit is insufficient. In addition, the law bans the use of the ushers, who this year and in past years directed males and females to the proper areas.
One of the notables present for the hearing was Jerusalem Police Chief Niso Shacham who explained a department permit for the barrier was issued this year.
It should be pointed out that despite the court’s ruling last year against the segregation; Toldos Aaron received police permission this year, but the mechitza exceeded the permitted length, which was 26 meters. The petition also cited the large signs instructing women to stay off of Meah Shearim Street during the Simchas Beis HaShoeva hours, instructing them to use Shivtei Yisrael Street as illegal and discriminatory.

Rabble-Rousers!
I’d like to see them try and stop us.
I doubt the frum Yidden care much about the court. And I doubt the police want to get into another fight with the frum Yidden who are going to put up the mechitzas anyways.
Nebach nebach…. for this to happen in the so called “Jewish” land…. people trying to live as religios jews and trying to prevent taarivos are banned to do so by the “jewish” land’s high court.
before you start bashing me, please remember the gemorra in succos, where it is detailed how there were specially constructed mechitzos (barrier) in the holy Bais Hamikdosh, to prevent the men from seeing the women.
the people of Toldos Aron just want to follow this gemorra….
If they don’t like that there’s segregation, why don’t they just stay away? The Meah Shearimniks don’t want Rachel Azarya and her ilk to be in Meah Shearim, and I’m sure Rachel Azarya has no desire to be there herself, so why does she have to make a STINK?!?
