‘Perfect Storm’ Of Events Expected To Create Major Gridlock Across NYC

Bring your patience along for the commute Thursday. A combination of events makes this a gridlock alert day in New York City.

A downtown Manhattan visit by President Obama, the funeral of former Governor Hugh Carey at Saint Patrick’s Cathedral and home games for both the Mets and Yankees this afternoon are all expected to cause heavy traffic.

Traffic expert “Gridlock” Sam Schwartz, calls it “a perfect storm.”

Obama is expected to attend a fundraising event at the Battery Park Ritz Carlton around 5:30 p.m. before heading over to the West Village after 7 p.m. He is expected to leave New York after 9 p.m.

Motorists can expect traffic freezes on the FDR Drive and West Side Highway anytime between 4:30 p.m. and 10 p.m.

  1. dont forget renewals food and wine tasting event is tonight 7-10 further clogging up the highway (and some peoples arteries)

  2. I’m so “happy” that Obummer is coming to mess up the traffic big time. Just like him to not care one bit about anyone else but himself.
