New Defense Lawyer For Accused Killer Of Leiby Kletzky Speaks Out

The new lawyer for the man accused of killing and dismembering an eight-year-old Brooklyn boy talked to reporters for the first time Tuesday.

Attorney Jennifer McCann joined the defense team for Levi Aron on Friday.

Another lawyer stepped down, saying the details of the crime were too much to handle, but McCann says her client is innocent until proven guilty.

“I understand people are outraged by what is a horrific, horrific crime, and they believe they found who’s guilty and they believe he should be punished and they don’t appreciate anyone who wants to spend his rights,” said McCann. “But this isn’t a country where we believe in shooting galleries and lynch mobs.”

Leiby Kletzky was reported missing two weeks ago.

Police later found the boy’s remains in Aron’s home and in a dumpster in Sunset Park.

Aron is charged with murder and kidnapping.

He pleaded not guilty.

  1. Agreed; innocent until proven guilty, but not if the claim is a claim of insanity of a guy who has been going to work and living a regular life (albeit on the bottom of the totem pole) for so many years!

  2. Let me air out my thoughts.
firstly, Honestly, how can YWN post a picture of this heinous animal. It makes my blood boil everytime I see a picture of him.
Secondly, can anyone explain to me how in the world after being caught red handed AND confessing to the crime, HOW? JUST HOW can he plead not guilty? does he think he’s playing a game with kids. Bugs me.
Lastly, I hope this new lawyer finds him totally guilty with honesty and not looking to make a buck. DA Charles Hynes better watch out for whats coming and keep his word.

  3. She is not “aware of the resources of the Aron family” to pay her retainer, she said, but expected that she and Mr. Bazile would receive fees as court-assigned counsel. (NY Times)

  4. Of course he did it, but he’s within his rights to plead not guilty and he is entitled to legal representation. What he did was the act of a madman, but if he understands what he did was wrong and is aware of the trial process, he won’t be found insane.

I wish Yeshiva World and the other sites would ignore him until the case goes to trial.

  5. Yesh Did v’Yesh Dayan. The murderer will pay in full. No lawyer can help him there. This affair is more about you and me, less about him. So, let’s forget about him. Let’s do something better going forward! Something we know it’s right, but we don’t like doing.

  6. He definitely has a creepy, evil look. He scares me and I won’t let my grandchildren see his picture. I’m afraid they will have nightmares.

  7. bottom line, this woman would happily put him back on the streets. and that is why I think criminal defense lawyers are scum.

  8. Ms. McCann, if you have children, I hope you continuously have nightmares about them being dismembered by some cruel, sick animal like the one you are trying to defend.

“Innocent until proven guilty” my foot. The kid was FOUND in his apartment, and he DIRECTED the police to where the other half of the boy was! Don’t tell me he’s not guilty you…

  9. If he has a weird look in his eye, its definetly not the sinister kind. this guy is scary because he looks so harmless, you gotta use precaution.in this day in age, a chezkas kashrus is not to be given to any one who looks like a yid.

  10. The readers have spoken, the pictures gotta go!
#2, he’s been going to work normally all these years because he’s been taking anti-psychotic medication. Clearly he stopped relatively recently because he fed them to the boy before the act. For that reason his insanity plea stands tall.

  11. L’havdil elef havdolos by the Sanhedrin Kulo Chayav is zakai. If he dowsn’t have a lawyer he cannot go to trial

  12. I believe there are some situations in which defendants are not allowed to plead guilty. Any lawyers out there who can clarify?
