9/11 Memorial Launches Online Reservation System

As workers near completion of the September 11th Memorial in Lower Manhattan, tickets are now available online for those who want to visit.

Up to nine passes for a specific time and day can be reserved at 911memorial.org.

Memorial officials say the large number of users on the website may force users to submit their request several times, but the reservations are being processed.

The memorial will be dedicated by public officials and families of World Trade Center victims on September 11 and then officially open to the public on September 12.

The memorial plaza — featuring the names of September 11th victims and the reflecting pools in the footprints of the original Twin Towers — can only hold about 1,500 people at a time.

Even though tickets are needed, the memorial is free and visitors can stay as long as they like.

“The reservation system is absolutely a work-around that we had to develop to reflect the fact that construction continues around us,” said President Joseph Daniels of the September 11th Memorial and Museum.

Once the reservation is made, visitors can either print the pass at home or pick it up at the September 11th Memorial preview site on Vesey Street.
