A DePaul University political scientist whose course was abruptly canceled by the Chicago school for the upcoming academic year [as reported HERE on YW], says he plans to fight the cancellation through civil disobedience. DePaul recently denied Norman Finkelstein tenure. In canceling his one remaining class, the administration also told him that he no longer has an office at the university. Finkelstein said yesterday that he will attempt to enter his former office, and that if he is arrested, he will conduct a hunger strike.
Prof. Norman Finkelstein has said that Israel uses the Holocaust as an excuse for the fight against anti-Semitism and has managed to trick Germany into paying exorbitant sums of money in compensation. He also called Holocaust survivor and scholar Eli Wiesel a “clown prince.”
Those statements have led critics to accuse Finkelstein of fomenting anti-Semitism. But his supporters have praised him as a forthright critic of Israel.

Norman Finklestien cannot begin his huger strike fast enough. He is a sick person he is Jewish by birth however loaths Judaisim Jewish People and Jewish values, he has found his niche with the anti-semites – his financial supporters by bashing the most sensitive Jewish subjects.

Stan, this is a person who outright denies the Holocaust, who says that Torah is racist and that frum yidn are backwards idiots. This is not (just) about criticism of Israel.
Yoel, has he said that? Is he a tinok shenishba? Is he not correct that holocaust-worship is the most prevalent religion among the Israelis who are de-Judaized?
Did Germany pay huge sums as he claims? At whose request? For what reason(s)? What happened to that money?
Maybe we should hear some of his works and answer some of the above before we start blasting the guy. I, personally, never heard anything from the guy, but I would be curious to know what is really the story.

thekatan, If you are serious, just google DePaul University, check the political science department and there are many links to his writings, speeches, etc. Then you can maybe make an accurate & objective (?) decision.

Hakatan, do as sayitlikeitis says and read some of his works. I myself will never reclaim the two hours or so I spent doing so when I first heard of him and could not believe any Jew would say such abominable things.
I am all for judging every Jew fairly, even more than fairly. I am all for denouncing so-called Holocaust worship. Finkelstein is beyond reprehensible.

Those survivors who went through the NAZI GEHENOM cannot be judged by US for abandoning their religion.
There was a story of a Holocaust survivor who was born into a very Frum home in Galicia. He was deproted as a child with his family and saw them all shot before his eyes.
He came to America and became totally not Frum.

nameless: No one said that he was a survivor. He was a child of survivors. That doesn’t neccesarily put him in the “We can’t judge them” category.
I know that MIDWESTERNER, I was stam referring to survivors in general in response to the commentator who said that they ‘ran as fast they could from gd and religion’
But as an aside, I know heard that children of Holocaust survivors are requesting that the reparation money should continue being given to them as a result of being brought up under stressful circumstances.
I like the comment about the Arab countries though Professor Finkelstein may not get the welcome that he thinks he deserves.
