A surprise in the united volunteer headquarters! After surveying hundreds of volunteer forms from all over the country Ichud Hatzolah were surprised to find that the average age of their volunteers is not as young as they had all thought… it’s approximately 43 years of age!
It also appears that many of the volunteers have grandchildren, and some even have great grandchildren! They were surprised because the nature of the job would seem to require youthful energy and stamina.
Volunteering requires running to emergency calls, performing CPR, which takes a lot of physical effort, with the demand of being on call round the clock .
It was quite astonishing that only 30% of all volunteers are under the age of thirty.
The greatest surprise of all was the age of the oldest volunteer who just turned 78 years old! Sara has children, grandchildren and even some great-grandchildren. Sara doesn’t miss a beat. She is living in Shalavim and responds to every call which comes in.
