“Im Jewish and I know it” is 100% right! Not much more needs to be said and I have never posted before but I felt that I had to comment on this and do whatever I can to contribute to stopping this new “tradition” that I think is contributing to marital troubles.
What kind of crazy women’s lib idea is this? When I got married almost 10 years ago, my husband told me about the gift his sister got his brother-in-law for the yichud room. They are modern orthodox and I explained to my husband basically what “Im Jewish and I know it” said. I have to tell you that we are very happily married and his sister is divorced (her choice of yichud room present did not do anything to help their marriage). The premise of the idea of a gift for the chosson in the yichud room is so misguided! Your gift to your husband is to happily and lovingly be his wife and to build your home on the foundation of kedusha and tahara– as will be said under your chuppah–…v’heteer lanu es han’suos lanu al yedai chuppah v’kidushin…ba”H m’kadesh amo Yisroel al y’dai chuppah v’kidushin. This is your gift to him and it’s not always an easy one but I can almost guarantee you that if that is your gift to him you will have a wonderful marriage! Yes, his job of buying some jewelry is easier but as you will b’ezras Hashem see, that will be the case in many of your roles in your home (giving birth comes to mind.)…Or you can buy him some old dinky gift! 🙂 May you have a beautiful marriage built on kedusha and tahara and love!
