Vogue, no one debates that anyone is entitled to take money for necesities from tzedoko. The question here is taking money for things that some people obviously consider extras.

Think again, if you had a pair of shoes that you could wear, and then a chasuna ccame up, and you wanted a pair of expensive insole shoes that also looked good, would you take money from tzedoko for that?
