Rivkib, appropos of what you wrote, my husband was engaged for less than a week, to a very nice woman who just was not ready to be married (she had been married and emotionally very scarred). My husband ran into a Rov who was very special to him who had heard of the engagement, but not of the breakup, and when he enthusiastically hugged my husband and said Mazeltov, my husband had to say he was sorry to tell him but the engagement was broken.
