An 82-year-old man charged with shooting another man outside a synagogue on Rosh Hashanah is competent to stand trial, a judge ruled. Judge Lucy Chernow Brown signed an order that said Marc Benayer could be tried on first-degree murder charges. Benayer is accused of fatally shooting Jonathan Samuels, 44, as he left a Rosh Hashanah service at the Chabad Weltman Synagogue near Boca Raton in October 2005. Samuels died in July 2006.
