The following is by Celeste Katz from the Daily News Blog:
Agudath Israel Of America, an umbrella group representing many Hasidic Jews, blasted out an “urgent legislative alert” about the New York marriage bill a short time ago, signed by Rabbi Chaim Dovid Zwiebel, executive vice president and Rabbi Shmuel Lefkowitz, vice president for community services:
“It now appears that the New York State Legislature is poised to vote, probably this week, on a bill that would legalize same-gender marriage. This bill is both morally and legally unacceptable, and could lead to serious negative consequences. Several Agudath Israel askonim are currently in Albany, conveying these concerns to key legislators, but it is important that Albany hears from our grassroots constituency as well.
“The battleground for this legislation is likely to be in the New York State Senate. We therefore urge you to take a minute right now and:
“1. Call your State Senator and leave the message that you are deeply opposed to legalizing same-gender marriage and will be watching to see how the Senator votes on this important issue. To be connected to your State Senator, or if you don’t know who your State Senator is, call the Senate operator at 518-455-2800.
“2. Call Senate Majority Leader Dean Skelos (518-455-3171), and leave the message that, as leader of the Republican majority in the State Senate, he should make every effort to ensure that the Senate continues to stand firm against same-gender marriage.
“Together, with Hashem’s help, we can still help defeat this pernicious legislation.”

Can someone please explain to me why at the most recent dinner, Weiner and Schumer were speakers? The 2 most liberal anti family values shmutzige chevra were given a forum next to Gedolei Yisrael. These pigs stand for immorality and tumah. It seems hypocrtical that Aguda, whose essense should be Family Values, go against their beliefs and give a forum to people that stand against everything Aguda stands for.
Why is this more important than mila bans pending in Santa Monica and San Francisco?
#1- Are you kidding?!
The biggest pig of them all was given the honor at the dinner. I am referring to none other than The disgraceful Sheldon Silver, the farce of a Orthodox Jew.
Yes, the biggest supporter of toeiva marriage in New York State was given the honor of speaking at the Agudath israel dinner, the same dais which once sat Hagon Rav Moshe, Rav Yaakov, Rav Ruderman and the tzadikim of pre-war Europe.
And the packed room of people sitting there stood and clapped for Silver and his ilk for getting them TAP funding.
Agudah sold us down the river for a few shekels.
Of course….all in the name of the moetzes.
#1 and ferd perhaps you have no understanding of politics. Its davka because of who they are that we kowtow, so that we maintain some pull with them. A far better move then stam alienating them!
#3, I had no idea that was the case. So now we have 3 big pigs gathered at a supposed kiddush Hashem which turned into a huge chilul Hashem. I wonder if the Chofetz Chaim and Rav Chaim Oizer were alive today, would they be in favor of these animals speaking at a holy event.
A little toooooo late! You should be ashamed of yourselves for standing by these anti-god politions all the time! Dont be buddy-buddy with Silver one day and all of the sudden jump out against what he is doing. He has the power alone to stop it and has only been doing the opposite.
guys guys.
this is a public forum.
no need!
Its interesting how the Agudah doesn’t blink when our so called “orthodox” politicians like Dov Hikind endorsed a Pro To’eivah candidate this month. Shelly Silver is another fine example of how low our “askanim” have gone!
He is the most pro liberal agenda left wing wacko there is.
And then we have the Bonei Oilam clowns bringing these To’eiva people and giving them a platform to speak.
All of these “askonim” need to know we do not support these junkies and their “dirty” politics on our voices.
This is not being “boinei olam” its called “destroying the world
#3 – why do you have to refer to it as the dais where previous gedolim once sat? Why not say it’s the dais where today’s gedolim were actually sitting?
I just called Senate Majority Leader Dean Skelos (518-455-3171 and the phone was answered by a live person. Everyone should call.
You Holy Yidden still don’t get it…we stand to gain nothing but feelings of righteousness in this effort…and we stand to lose a lot more by supporting the notion that it is all well and good when feelings of religious righteousness drive legislative positions that do not effect directly the righteous ones.
This bill has enough exemptions to protect Keddushin and everything else that goes on in the dalet amos of a shul…and in our communities…it threatens us not at all. And by by supporting the notion that religious righteousness can drive essentially tangential legislative positions, we support the moral legitimacy of other “righteous religious groups” attempting to ban shechita and the like.
Live and let live in the public arena, unless it threatens us directly, as in the mila mess in San Fransisco…and spend more time acknowledging and cleaning up our own problems.
