WSPU Conduct Successful Sting

A car thief was taken into police custody on Sunday after he was nabbed in a Williamsburg Shomrim operation.

On Sunday morning Shomrim got a call about a car stolen from Kent Avenue at Keap Street. Shomrim members got the license plate number and a description of the car, then alerted the rest of the organization. At around 9 p.m., a Shomrim member spotted the vehicle parked at South 9th Street and Wythe Avenue. More members were dispatched to observe the car to see if someone would come for it.

A few hours later, the suspect arrived, entered the car and started the engine. Realizing he was being monitored, he fled on foot.

The Shomrim members caught the suspect a block away and turned him over to the NYPD.

Shomrim tell YWN that the suspect had previous arrests related to car theft. Shomrim also thanked Deputy Inspector Michael M. Kemper, the Commanding Officer of the NYPD’s 90 Precinct for their incredible ongoing cooperation in ensuring that the entire command is protected from crime.
