Happened to me and my family once over 20 years ago while driving a rental car, and even then it was pretty scary.
Don’t know how it is now, but back then, all the signs pointed the way to the Me’ara; none of them pointed the way back to the highway.
Boruch Hashem, it depends who the driver and tour guides are. Usually the guides are from Kiryat Arba and the Gush and they know the roads like the palm of their hands.
Happened to me 20 years ago too. I was on my way to Matatyahu and I made the mistake of stopping and asking a soldier for directions. I followed the directions and made the first left just as he had said. I was a little uncomfortable by the lack of a sign or fence. There was trash to the sides of the poorly paved road, and this odor… As I reached the top of the hill and glanced at the first house to my left which was flying the Palestinian flag, I realized that I was indeed not in Matatyahu.
