Camp counselor definitely counts, and is something you should add to your resume! See, you have job experience.
Also, I do think it is preferred to have someone help you. Before I wrote my first resume, I attended a resume writing workshop sponsored by Yeshiva University, and then after applying to several jobs, and not getting as many interviews as I would like and not getting a job offer soon enough, I went to a Jewish social services organization that is in the process of editing my resume to make it stronger and they helped me find a direction of what types of jobs I should be looking into, and if I feel that I need to practice my interviewing skills, I can arrange for a mock interview. I am sure many communities have these types of organizations.
