Halacha generally comes with reams of fine print for situations in which “no matter what” creates more problems than it solves. An example is the principle of bending rules when not doing so puts Torah to ridicule. This aside, as a hediot, I doubt the possibility of maintaining a cohen’s purity when all cohanim today are only behezkat cohanim and are presumed to be tameh to begin with.
