Not passing a road test is in no way a reflection of your driving. Like someone told me, its a matter of being able to fool the examiner in seven minutes or so that you know how to handle a car. No one can actually show how they drive in such a short time.
Its a good idea to take with an instructor, because they can tell you the little things they look for (like in NY they can take off as much as 15 points for not doing hand over hand correctly).
