Mayor Bloomberg Rips House Bill That Would Slash Terror Aid

Mayor Bloomberg said a pared down Homeland Security funding bill passed by the House Thursday would jeopardize New York because it remains a major terror target.

“Just a few weeks ago, when the NYPD arrested two men plotting terrorist attacks in our city, we once again saw that the threat of terrorism remains very real,” Bloomberg said, referring to the plot by two anti-Semitic lone wolves to attack city synagogues.

The Republican-controlled House voted 231 to 188 to approve a $42 billion Department of Homeland Security funding bill that is $1 billion less than last year’s level and $3 billion lower than what President Obama had sought.

If this version of the bill is passed by the Senate, New York would be out $100 million in federal funding, Bloomberg said.

“We already bear too much of the costs for protecting the city, and these proposed cuts would be a severe blow to our counter-terrorism efforts,” he said.
