Maybe they didn’t know your phone number? Everyone needs to work on connections. I’ve been to shuls from outside my neighborhood and people noticed that I was new there and welcomed me to the area. On the other hand, if you want people to know you, you can’t just show up in shul. There are lots of people who want to have guests over for shabbos but you have to show initiative and contact them.
