Jayson Werth slammed two homers and drove in four runs while Pedro Feliz and Shane Victorino also connected as the Phillies became the first team to reach back-to-back World Series since the New York Yankees eight years ago.

Andre Ethier, James Loney and Orlando Hudson also homered for the Dodgers at Citizens Bank Park as the teams combined to tie the record of seven home runs in a post-season match.

Right-fielder Werth had headed into the game with only one hit in 14 at-bats, but added three more hits to complete the NLCS with three home runs and six RBI.

It helped Philadelphia become the first team since the Atlanta Braves in 1995-96 to claim two consecutive NL pennants.

The Phillies will begin their bid for a third World Series crown next Wednesday at New York or Los Angeles.

The Yankees lead the Angels 3-1 in the American League Championship Series, which resumes on Thursday night at Angel Stadium. (Telegraph)
