President Barack Obama will visit Ground Zero in lower Manhattan on Thursday, FOX News Channel reported Monday.
The visit will come in the wake of the death of al Qaeda leader Usama bin Laden, who was killed in Pakistan early Monday local time in a raid by US Navy SEALs.
Obama plans to meet with the families of people killed in the Sept. 11, 2001, terrorist attacks masterminded by bin Laden.
Obama’s predecessor as president, George W. Bush, famously visited the site of the World Trade Center in the aftermath of the attacks.
Crowds of New Yorkers rushed to the site to celebrate the news of bin Laden’s death, staying there into the early hours of Monday.
