NY: Salmonella Fears Prompt Cucumber Recall

A North Carolina company is recalling a batch of cucumbers due to the potential that the product may be contaminated with Salmonella.

L&M Companies, Inc. of Raleigh, N.C. on Friday issued a voluntary recall for 1590 cartons of whole cucumbers because they may be contaminated with Salmonella. In a press release, the company said that the product was distributed between March 30 and April 7, to wholesalers in New York, Florida, Illinois, Indiana and Tennessee. The company says it also distributed the cucumbers to retailers in Mississippi, Nebraska, Texas and Wyoming.

L&M Companies, Inc. says there have been no reports of illness associated with the recall, and that no other products are involved.

Consumption of foods with salmonella can result in salmonellosis. Symptoms of salmonellosis include diarrhea, abdominal cramps, and fever within eight to 72 hours after the contaminated food was consumed.

The recalled cartons are marked Nature’s Delight and contain the Lot # PL-RID-002990 on the side of the carton. Only this one lot is being recalled.
