Williamsburg Sees Ticket & Towing Blitz Over Pesach

The NYPD went on a towing and ticket blitz in Williamsburg yesterday — apparently forgetting that it was still Pesach.

More than 41 cars were towed and more than 100 given summonses, even though it was Pesach. Community leader Isaac Abraham said parking was scheduled to be suspended Tuesday and Wednesday for Passover, but the NYPD apparently thought the affected days were Monday and Tuesday.

  1. Forget, nothing. They knew they weren’t supposed to ticket. But this was an easy way to meet their ticket quotas for the month. And they never have to suffer any consequences when they screw up, so it’s a win-win situation for them. The rules should be changed to make them accountable when they ticket innocent people illegally.

  2. Why not actually obey the law for once and don’t park illegally. Why should it matter that it is yom tov or not.

  3. Torahumada must not be a NYC driver. Alternate side parking is suspended for many holidays, including Jewish, Christian, and Muslim ones. It’s legal to park in “no parking for street cleaning” zones on those days. Nobody broke the law.

  4. #3 I really hope you are joking? When alternate side is suspended then it is not illegal to park there, they suspend it because we can’t move the car on Yom Tov, did that sum it up for you?

  5. 3. This is not a site for MO/YU people.

The fact of the story is that alternate side was CANCELLED for the ENTIRE yom tov!!!!!!!!!!!

Don’t start hating on the people of Willyburg.

  6. To #3: They WEREN’T parked illegally. They were parked legally! On recognized holidays there is no alternate side parking. (And how would you expect someone frum to move his car on Yom Tov?) They were ALLOWED to be where they were parked. It is the police whose actions were illegal. Please rejoin us here on planet earth.
