The general strike taking place in Israel is in full swing, but at a serious expense – estimates are that it will cost NIS 1 Billion each day! As of this report (9:45AM EST), the only thing which has not yet been affected by the strike is the airport – but not for long. This was the result of major pressure placed on the Histadrut officials. The airport is scheduled to be closed on Thursday.
According to the Jerusalem Post, on Thursday, generally the busiest day of the week at Ben Gurion, 47,000 people are expected to arrive and depart from the airport on a total of approximately 280 flights. 50,000 additional passengers are expected to pass through Ben Gurion over the weekend.
Haaretz is reporting in the name of Finance Ministry sources, that negotiations with Histadrut labor federation could be finalized by the end of the day, putting an end to the general strike.
But nothing is taken for granted in Israel…….
YW Will be bringing you the latest on the strike.
