Zeliger, no, you should not be concerned. The key word (or phrase) here is, as you wrote, “as prescribed by my doctor.” Ssri’s are commonly used, can be very helpful, and are usually safer and have fewer side efects than other antidepressants. As long as you are under a doctor’s care there’s nothing wrong with taking them, and i would never suggest otherwise. You may need to be patient and wait some time to see results, but you will hopefully find they improve your quality of life. If you are not satisfied with the results, your doctor may eventually change the type of drug or dosage. You should absolutely not stop taking them suddenly.

But there are too many people out there who pop pills that have never been prescribed for them, or in higher doses than have been prescribed for them. They can do real harm to themselves. Those are the people i was addressing.
