NYC Councilman David Greenfield just tweeted that he’s at a public safety hearing, and NYPD Commissioner Ray Kelly told him that he has no plans to leave for the FBI.

This comes after Sen. Chuck Schumer told the Daily News on Sunday that he believes Raymond Kelly should take over as FBI director when the agency’s current head retires this fall.

Schumer promised that in the coming weeks he would strenuously advocate for Kelly to both the Justice Department and the White House.

“He’s the preeminent law enforcement person in the country,” said Schumer. “He knows more about this than anyone.”

The current director of the FBI, Robert Mueller, will step down this September when his 10-year term expires.

Kelly has been considered for the prestigious post before, following the 1993 terrorist attack at the World Trade Center, but reportedly turned it down.

On Monday, Mayor Bloomberg told WCBSTV that he would not want to see Kelly go.

“Ray Kelly served his time in Washington and did a great job there,” said Bloomberg. “I, for one, would like him…expect him to stay for the next 1,023 days.”

The mayor cited low crime and effective counter-terrorism, and added Kelly deserves a lot of the credit.
