What Flatbush Shomrim Is Doing About Recent Stabbing Of Yeshiva Bochur

With the continued sinking economy, more people get desperate for money and become opportunists. This past week just proves once again that for a few dollars, a person can get desperate and commit violent acts.  The Flatbush Shomrim is vigorously stepping up patrols in the East 30′s neighborhood due to a recent stabbing. In tandem with our patrols we ask all community residents to be extra vigilant by acting as our eyes and ears and calling in any suspicious activity.

The incidents which occurred this past week were belatedly reported to Shomrim and one such incident to the police.

  1. The hypothesis that crime is a function of a depressed economy is interesting, but isn’t supported by facts. It
turns out crime rates have fallen the last few years.
While it is very “liberal” to believe that poverty causes people to turn to crime, that doesn’t seem to be the case.
Especially in the case of violent crime in would be nice if we could attribute it to economic woes but there isn’t really and evidence for it.

  2. my friend got robbed for her phone by a mugger with a knife on sunday by the circle on kings highway and they only reported it to the 63rd precint and not to shomrim i feel like people should know this man is still out their (this is a day after my friend eli got mugged and stabbed on his block !!)

  3. Are these the preposterous words of Shomrim or of YWN? So, now the sinking economy gives criminals the carte blanche to become ‘opportunists.’ Yet more validation for shmey drey and outright theft to be justified by desperation.
