The explosion of the Lakewood home which was reported on Thursday by YW (HERE) is now being investigated as possible arson. According to the Asbury Park Press, investigators have detected an accelerant at the site of the now leveled Joe Parker Road home. They are now looking into whether a recent burglary at the house may be connected to the blast.
The Ocean County Prosecutor’s Office told the APP, that the cause of the explosion is “definitely suspicious.”
Investigators were at the scene Friday and “are saying it was caused by an ignitable liquid,” Harper said. Lakewood police Detective Lt. Joseph Isnardi also said a flammable accelerant was used to spark the blast, which is being investigated as arson.
The house was unoccupied at the time of the explosion engulfing the building in flames and blowing one of its walls 50 to 60 feet away.
