The lesson is, always notify the driver. He is supposed to follow protocol and get everyone off the bus. Nothing is supposed to be considered “innocent” and it is not up to anyone on the bus to determine that. It is possible that a cop would bring a dog to sniff it. If the dog opens it and eats it, no harm done.
