Requiem for a Green Dream
The green-and-whites blew into town, confident and proud
Led by their Sanchise quarterback and by coach Rex the Loud
A brief stopover in Steeltown was all that they expected
The championship all but won, with presidential honors
The opposition stood no chance, soon they would be goners
And then the game was underway, quickly the Jets were grounded
Their running game was being stuffed, their defense getting pounded
On both sides of the ball, before a shocked Jet nation
Halftime came, not fast enough; by twenty-one they trailed
Comeback tries from such a hole had been tried and failed
The second half; a waste of time (or so some fans thought)
But the battered Jets still had their pride (would it go for naught?)
The Jets had at last woken up, the Pittsburgh attack blunted
Momentum quickly shifted, now the Steelers were the hunted
A safety and a TD, the Jets were still alive
But time was running out, and they still trailed by five
An onsides kick (it seemed to me) was the obvious decision
But instead they kicked it deep, a move worthy of derision
Oh, brilliant coach! What a bad choice! Worthy of a bumpkin.
