Former Mossad Chief To Head Israel Ports

Former Mossad chief Meir Dagan will be appointed chairman of Israel Ports Development & Assets Company Ltd., and will be responsible for implementing a national regional transport and strategic plan, Minister of Transport Israel Katz decided yesterday. Dagan is replacing Yiftach Ron-Tal, who was appointed chairman of Israel Electric Corporation (IEC).

Katz said that Dagan will head a joint committee of Israel Ports, Israel Railways, and Israel National Roads Company Ltd. to promote Israel’s land and sea regional transport and strategic plan. Katz added that he decided to appoint Dagan to the post because he “has the special skills needed to promote transportation links between Israel and countries in the region, and to lead strategic regional ventures, including linking the Jezreel Valley railway line over the Sheikh Hussein Bridge, fostering ties between the Eilat Port and the Aqaba Port, and building a railway line to Eilat for the carrying of goods between the Red and Mediterranean Seas.”
