Stocks Poised to Rise Ahead of Holiday

Stock futures rose Tuesday ahead of a shortened holiday schedule for U.S. markets, with investors betting a home sales report will show some recovery for the beleaguered sector. Prices surged on Monday, the first day of trading for the third quarter as Treasury yields fell and a report showed robust manufacturing in June.

Dow futures expiring in September were up 28.00, or 0.21 percent, at 13,655.00 in premarket trading, while S&P 500 futures rose 4.70, or 0.31 percent, to 1,535.70. Nasdaq 100 index futures rose 8.00, or 0.41 percent, to 1,980.00.

Trading was expected to be subdued during Tuesday’s session, as stock markets are set to close early, at 1 p.m. EDT, ahead of the July 4th holiday. With little corporate news expected, attention is expected to focus on economic reports on May factory orders and pending home sales. (AP)
