Just ahead of today’s City Council hearing on Wal-Mart’s possible move to the city, the retail giant has reached a deal with a key construction union.
The agreement with the Building and Construction Trades Council of Greater New York guarantees union workers will build or renovate any stores Wal-Mart opens in the five boroughs in the next five years.
Wal-Mart critics, including City Council Speaker Christine Quinn, have ripped the big-box store for what they call unfair labor practices with its employees.
Wal-Mart officials say they won’t participate in today’s hearing.

Bad idea. It is the order of things that New Yorkers should have to pay high prices. Walmart unfairly sells good quality merchandise for low prices. It has even been know to hire Shomer Shabbos workers (it helps that it is open seven days a week). It doesn’t even pay off union bosses.
I have a super liberal relative who lives in Manhattan and is opposed to Walmart being there bc they treat their workers poorly. Of course she constantly shops at Walmart every time she leaves the city.
“Unfair Labor Practices”? Like maybe they won’t allow you to belong to a Union?
Maybe they feel that the Unions are Unfair to Walmart.
