My parents frequently took my siblings and I to the Met museum of art – I had an appreciation for fine art drummed in since youth, and embraced it. I love going to that museum, my wife and I take our toddler there and he loves pointing at the paintings and talking about their contents – “blue birdie!” or “tree!” etc – (he loves the Monet, Renoir, and Breugel paintings especially, for some strange reason).
I believe that done properly, art (artistic forms of expression in general, not just painting) is one possible manifestation of how humans can be “tzelem Elokim” – an artist can almost literally create something from virtually nothing. Beethoven created his 5th from… a jumble of musical notes. Amazing. I don’t think HKBH gave Mozart, Beethoven, Michaelangelo, Donatello, et el these abilities for naught….
