NYPD Joins Hunt For Lakewood Cop-Killer

The NYPD has joined the massive hunt for a New Jersey cop killer.

Lakewood police asked city cops to keep their eyes peeled for Jahmell Crockam, the on-the-lam 19-year old thug allegedly responsible for fatally gunning down a 27-year-old officer on Friday night.

An intense search began for the cold-blooded perpetrator in Ocean County after the alleged Bloods gang member pumped three bullets into Lakewood patrolman Christopher Matlosz – killing him – on August and Brookfield drives at 5 p.m.

The young officer, who was set to be married next year, had pulled up alongside the baggy clothes wearing gunman who was walking down the street to ask a few routine questions. The tone of their conversation was not confrontational, authorities said.

But suddenly Crockam, who was wanted on a weapons possession charge, fatally fired and fled the scene, police said.

The gang member had abruptly slid the handgun out of his loose jeans and took a step back before unloading on the well-liked officer on a street corner riddled by drive by shootings, police and prosecutors said.

Meanwhile, the wounded officer sagged in the seat of his cruiser and died less than an hour after the grisly encounter, police said. His own weapon was still in its holster, authorities said.

Authorities cast a wide net to catch the cop killer. On Friday evening the determined police force deployed an air and land hunt and went door to door searching for the heartless culprit.

But by this morning Cockram still evaded authorities – which include 100 New Jersey local and state police units and federal authorities, who, at times tearfully, worked into the wee hours of the night.

“Everyone is remaining professional,” said Captain Thomas Hayes of the Ocean County Prosecutor’s Office. “This really is an intense investigation.”

The Jersey authorities had alerted the NYPD about the suspect yesterday.Crockam was described as a black male, standing around 5’9″, weighing 220 pounds. At the time of the shooting the suspect wore low-hanging baggy jeans that exposed his grey boxer shorts and a black hoodie, authorities said.

The Jersey State Policemen’s Benevolent Association is offering a $40,000 for information leading to the perpetrator’s arrest and conviction.
