usually when somebody selects a career choice its because they feel they are reasonably good at that profession and that it could make them a parnassa. therefore they dont need a backup plan.On the other hand, a profession of harbatzas torah is chosen by someone devoted to hashem, his torah, and klal yisrael. it might not make a decent parnassa. therefore a backup plan is a good idea
