Anyone who thinks this is a lack of bitachon has a fundamental misunderstanding of the concept. Bitachon doesn’t mean going through life believing that Hashem is watching out for us and therefore nothing bad will happen, because tragedies do happen. It means that you believe that whatever Hashem throws your way is for the best, even if you can’t see how. You should prepare yourself for certain possibilities (within reason); you should have a Plan B (again, within reason- maybe a plan C,D,E would be a bit much, but nothing wrong with a Plan B). You do your part, and when Hashem throws a curveball or a particularly nasty slider, you deal with it, always with the understanding that He’s looking out for you even when it doesn’t seem that way.
